Introduction to the Major in Healthcare Management
The Healthcare Management program aims at equipping students with a thorough knowledge of the healthcare industry and administration, as well as key professional and transferable skills that will allow them to pursue careers in the health care industry or post-graduate degrees in related fields in Greece or abroad. The program aspires to rendering students informed and responsible healthcare professionals who are able to manage effectively resources, budget and staff in the healthcare sector, contributing both to the wider community and the employing healthcare organizations.
Healthcare Management graduates may pursue managerial careers in a variety of commercial and non-commercial organizations in a variety of enterprises such as public health organizations, physician practices and clinics, hospitals and healthcare systems, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare related agencies and service organizations.
What You Will Study
Deree students can complete a dual degree, that is, a Deree US degree together with an Open University validated award (a UK degree), in just four years. Students begin their studies (first year) by selecting amongst liberal education courses. In subsequent years they attend courses of their major.
The structure of the curriculum progressively introduces students to various aspects of healthcare management and the healthcare industry. The program gives a broad, analytical and highly integrated study of business with a specialization in the field of healthcare management. Healthcare Management specific modules are focused on: the provision of in-depth knowledge of health and society and the structure of the healthcare industry; the acquisition of in-depth knowledge and understanding of the economic, socio-cultural, legal and political environments within which healthcare organizations operate; the provision of specialized knowledge of key managerial functions and processes in healthcare organizations; and, the development of students’ personal competencies necessary to lead corporate initiatives, and enhancement of lifelong learning skills and personal development to contribute to society at large. The program also includes a credit-baring internship placement in the field of healthcare, as an optional component of the program.
